With swimsuit weather still months away, many
students are continuing sunless tanning during the
cool months, and alternative methods are emerging.

New spray-on tanners are keeping OU students
beautifully bronzed without harmful UV rays. These
new alternatives to traditional tanning offer solutions
to students who are wary about the effects of tanning
beds.

There are many different kinds of UV-free tans. They
include the magnetized Mystic Tan system and a
professionally airbrushed bronze.

"Mystic Tan is great for fair skin types that burn
easily in a tanning bed; they get a lot more color that
they couldn't usually get," said Carissa Logan, regional
manager for At the Beach Tanning Superstore.

Mystic Tan works with magnets to give the customer
an evenly distributed, all-over tan, she said.

"The airbrushing works with the melatonin in the
skin so it looks different on each person," said Sun Spa
owner Darla Buckner. "Because of this, it looks very
natural on everyone."

But beware! The UV-free tan doesn't protect you
from the sun as a traditional tan may.
